You want fries with that? McDonald’s latest chain to embrace vegan options
Rice, red peppers, tomato pesto and split peas, fried in breadcrumbs.
It sounds pretty wonderful to us but it doesn’t SOUND like traditional ‘fast food’ fare.
It certainly doesn’t sound like McDonald’s but guess what, it most certainly is.
From next month, doubtless timed to leverage Veganuary, McDonald’s will be offering the vegan-friendly ‘Veggie Dippers Meal’, replete with fries and a soft drink.
The products will be fried separately from products containing meat and served with McDonald’s UK chips, which are vegan-friendly.
Of course, it isn’t just McDonald’s who are embracing vegan options, Greggs dominated the headlines earlier this year with their vegan sausage roll and the likes of Nando’s, Pizza Hut and Papa John’s have all added vegan products to their menu.
McDonald’s said in the last 12 months it had seen an “80% uplift” in customers ordering vegetarian options. It makes perfect sense for them to make this move and it has been welcomed by Peta, who described it as; “the very definition of a happy meal”.
Time will tell if McDonald’s and their customers are still ‘lovin’ it’ this time next year.
We expect they will be.
